Who are the townsfolk in Dragon Shelter?

Nine residents make up the town, and the story gives you a clear mission with all of them: the settlement has fallen under a gloom, and rekindling each relationship is how you bring the joy back. Every one of the nine appears in official screenshots or quest text, and most of them hand you your first real errands.

How do you talk to townsfolk and start quests?

Walk up and press E to talk. When a resident has work for you, a blue exclamation mark floats over their head — official dusk screenshots show the markers lit up around the shop square. Objectives land in your quest log phrased exactly as the residents say them, from “Dig Garden Beds 0/4” to “Talk to the Mayor”, so the log doubles as your to-do list.

How does friendship and gifting work?

Two heart moments, one casual and one earned. Press F to give a gift; residents react with visible expressions and hearts, which feed the friendship track. Handing in a quest produces the same warmth in a bigger flare — a golden glow and hearts when you deliver Rufus his jam. The achievement “Every Heart in Town” suggests that collecting all of that goodwill is the long game.

What is Rufus’s jam commission?

Rufus asks you to bring quality jam for his market stall, explaining that without traders coming to town anymore, the goods are running out. It is the clearest window into the gloom storyline: the town’s commerce has withered, and your cooking is what restarts the supply chain, one jar at a time.

What happens at the Festival!

The Festival! quest is a cooking finale: Cook Soup 3/3, Cook Baked Potato 3/3, help the Bard, then talk to the Mayor. The payoff is a night festival square — official screenshots show flute-playing, colorful bunting, and a cake surrounded by villagers — the once-gloomy town visibly, if temporarily, joyful. Both dishes come straight from the cooking guide.

Gifts need ingredients, quests need meals, and your farm feeds both — the farming guide and the getting-started walkthrough cover those loops, while the dragon guide notes that dragons will trot along beside you on these town errands.
