What should you do first in Dragon Shelter?

Follow the quest log from top to bottom: eat a berry in the tutorial, chop trees for wood and sticks, complete Leah’s gardening errand and Hugh’s blacksmith errand, then walk to town and meet the Mayor. That chain teaches nearly every core system within your first couple of in-game days, and each quest hands you the tools the next one expects.

How does the Eat a Berry tutorial work?

Dragon Shelter opens with a tiny survival lesson. The on-screen hints panel tells you to select a berry and then hold SPACE to eat it — and to press TAB to deselect if you grabbed the wrong item. It sounds trivial, but the same select-and-confirm pattern is how you interact with items all game long, so it is worth internalizing in the first minute.

Which resources should you gather first?

Wood, sticks, stone, and iron ore. Chop trees with your axe for wood and sticks, and work rocky nodes for stone and iron ore. Watch the energy bar in the bottom-right corner of the screen as you labor. Stockpile a little more than you think you need, because the first quests ask for exact counts — Hugh’s request alone wants 6 sticks and 4 pieces of wood.

What do Leah’s and Hugh’s first quests ask for?

Two short errands in a row teach the two loops you will repeat for the rest of the game:

  • The Gardener’s Request (Leah): Dig Garden Beds 0/4, then Plant Wheat 0/4, then Water Garden Beds 0/4. Your shovel, a handful of seeds, and the watering can cover it — the full rhythm is explained in the farming guide.
  • The Blacksmith’s Request (Hugh): Gather Sticks 6/6 and Gather Wood 4/4.

After those, the story moves you along: To Town (“Come to Town”), then The Right Approach (talk to the Mayor), then Getting Acquainted — a walking tour that sends you to the Blacksmith, Merchant, Lumberjack, Herbalist, Mayor, Bard, and Alchemist. Our townsfolk guide profiles everyone you will meet on that route.

Which systems matter in your first hours?

Five, and most of them are on screen at once:

  • Energy bar — bottom-right; tracks your working stamina through the day.
  • Hotbar — ten slots on keys 1 through 0, with tools and items shown across two rows.
  • Clock, season, and weekday — displayed like “SPRING Monday 09:31”, so you always know how much daylight remains.
  • Storage — a two-pane screen between Your Inventory and Storage: hold Shift to move 5 items, Ctrl to move the whole stack, and note the locked slots you can expand into later.
  • Build mode — press SPACE to open construction, where a green preview shows that a placement is valid.

When questions pile up — prices, languages, platforms — the FAQ has short answers, and What is Dragon Shelter? recaps the basics of the game itself.
